Hiking the 7 Wonders of Big Bear - Bertha Peak

Bertha Peak (8,201 feet) - 7 miles round trip, moderate difficulty, 1,397-foot elevation gain and loss. Bring water, food and camera. Wear sunscreen and good trail shoes. Adventure Pass is needed to park in the Cougar Crest Trail parking lot.

The hike begins at the Cougar Crest trail head located on North Shore Blvd .25 miles west of the Big Bear Discovery Center.

Continue to follow the Cougar Crest Trail until it meets up with the Pacific Crest Trail, turning right onto the ridge.

The PCT portion is less than 0.5 miles and travels east along the ridge line. Turn right on a dirt road. Look for a white post with a faded "Bertha Peak" written on it.

A steep access road takes hikers to the peak which is about 0.75 miles from this point.

Once you reach the top you will enjoy views of Big Bear Lake, Holcomb Valley, Lucerne Valley, Snow Valley and beyond.
