On March 10, over 40 brave souls will plunge into chilly Big Bear Lake at Swim Beach to raise funds for the Special Olympics, including a team of Big Bear law enforcement officers and firefighters, and so far over $3,475 has been pledged for the event.This is the first Polar Plunge in So Cal. that is not taking place at an ocean beach. Big Bear Lake's temperatures dip into the 30's and even 20's. Participants can wade in as far as they dare before bolting to the warming area.
All proceeds will be giving people with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and share skills, accomplishments and friendship with their families, and the community and so far more than 14 Big Bear Businesses including Big Bear Vacations have pledged their support.
Activities surrounding the event at Swim Beach include music, a barbecue (free for plungers), a family fun area, games and prizes, concession stands, souvenirs and more.
