MOUNTAIN TRAVEL ALERT

A series of snowfalls is forecast to begin Friday night and continue through Saturday and Sunday making for great skiing over the President's Weekend. The main body of the storm is expected Sunday night and into next week bringing a possibility of substantial snowfall. This means that we will continue to have great skiing conditions, but mountain travel will be an issue for those who don't plan ahead.

There are three routes into Big Bear, Hwy 330/18 (front way), Hwy 38, and Hwy 18 (back way).

Please continue to check for the latest road information here.

Avoid Hwy 330/18, the front route, all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday, early mornings through early evenings. This is the most common way in and out of Big Bear and WILL HAVE HEAVY TRAFFIC DELAYS. Late evenings should be OK to and from Big Bear however we recommed avoiding this road throughout the weekend. All vehicles, including those with four-wheel and All-wheel drives, must always carry chains when traveling to the mountains during winter months. In snowy conditions with chain control and heavy traffic, the desert route, Hwy 18, through Lucerne Valley is generally best as it is the shortest mountain drive. We recommend this route to everybody traveling in and out of Big Bear this weekend. While this road would generally be 30-45 minutes longer than other ways, this weekend YOU WILL SAVE TIME by traveling this route!
