100 Things - BBV Staff Picks

Janice’s Pick of the Day #56. Snow Tube at Magic Mountain

Never have I had such a great time in the snow! Not being the greatest on the ski slope, I really fall back on sledding for my winter sports. I usually would go out to an open hillside, mark my path, and sled until I wore myself out. This time I decided to give the Magic Mountain sledding slopes a try. I went with my family, and stayed all day long. The lift carpets were the best, it allowed enough rest time for the next slide down. I had to tote the inner tube with me along the way, but it made a great rest cushion when I really needed to take a break and sit down as I traveled up again and again. All of us in our group were able to hold hands together while sliding down the hill. It was remarkably fun for the whole family. We could not stop laughing from the excitement of speeding down that snowy bank. There’s something about those inner tubes, they really catch speed. Sometimes they would twist and turn backwards on us switching up the whole down ward experience. Out of all the sledding we did, we all felt safe, but thrilled, no one got hurt, and we went home with the best pictures and memories yet!

Zaira’s Pick of the Day #36. Sing Karaoke at Murrays

Murray’s is a local favorite. The regulars will cheer you on and serenade you with hilarious re-writes of popular songs. Try Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats” and you will hear the “man’s response” version. Not a big singer? There is plenty of liquid courage to give you that boost you need.

Think Snow!

Looks like we might get a break from the spring like conditions we have had for the past week or so as some colder weather is predicted for late this weekend. Good thing, as the Snowshoe the Bear course could use a little help! Check out the forecast for Sunday...and THINK SNOW!

Sunday --COOLER, WINDY, VERY LIGHT SNOW BY EVENING/ OVERNIGHT-- -> A low pressure system carves south across California and Nevada, with increasing winds and clouds late day. Snow showers develop in the evening and overnight as this system moves through, mainly to the east.

Bluebird Days!

Winter ski conditions couldn't be better at the mountain right now. I have had a chance to go snowboarding a few times this year and it has been great. The snow storms that came in December have put a good base on the slopes and they have been making plenty of snow on top of that. Lot's of reasons to come up right now and check it out...like our 3 for 2 midweek special!

Perfect Week?

Wow! This week looks like it might be a "PERFECT" week up in Big Bear. Sunshine everyday... Lot's of snow on the mountain... and the holiday crowds are gone! This is why we live in Big Bear! Come up and experience the magic of the mountains. Skiing, snowshoeing, or relaxing by the fire. This week may be a hard one to top!

The Current Snow Report

We are enjoying excellent mid-winter conditions on the snow, which ranges from machine groomed packed powder to machine groomed hard pack. There is warm sunny weather in the forecast for the next few days to make for fun days on the slopes! Snow Summit has 67 beginner to advanced features: 41 snow features, 19 of them being jumps and 26 jibs, so come and find out which ones are your favorites!

The Current Forecast

It looks like we're in for some very nice weather this week, though a cool and breezy start to things Monday with light north winds as highs make it only into the lower 40s, warming a degree or two each day throughout the rest of the week. Overnight lows will cool into the lower 20s each night, as afternoon highs climb into the low 50s by the second half of the week with occasional high clouds, but remaining dry for the time being. Overall little change through the weekend and beyond as the jet stream rides up and over high pressure which will be our predominant weather feature for awhile.
