75 Things to Do!

Check it out! Katie from Los Angeles, CA has submitted photos of 75 "Things" from our list of 100 Things to Do! This is by far the most pictures we have received to date. Congrats Katie! For your efforts you just won...

A Big Bear Vacations T-Shirt, a 100 Things To Do Hoodie, A $50 Gift Certificate to a local Eatery, 50% OFF any stay with Big Bear Vacations, and a FREE Two Night Stay at Shore Acres Lodge with $100 in Local Activity Vouchers!

This is what Katie had to say about her 75 Things...

"I have to say, the contest is a fantastic way to getpeople to Big Bear and doing activities that they may not have done otherwise. We actually took a trip to Big Bear a few months ago with the SOLE PURPOSE of doing as many of the summer activities as possible (of the ones we had not already done). We've been to Big Bear several times over the past several years, but on that last trip we learned so much about the city and everything it has to offer. We also learned that you should not try to take a Prius up Polique Canyon Rd. to the Lucky Baldwin mine! (you live you learn). Anyway, I think you're doing a great thing for the city and we look forward to (maybe) someday completing all "100 things to do in Big Bear"!

In case you were not aware, Big Bear Vacations list of 100 Things to Do is by far the easiest way to check out everything Big Bear has to offer. On top of that, you can win cool stuff too.

Think Snow!

I am started to get a little excited as it looks like we might be getting some snow this weekend. Sounds like it might be enough to get the snowshoes out! Check out the current forecast...

Saturday and Sunday --2 STORMS, MOSTLY LIGHT SNOW-- -> The strong low pressure system dominates the pattern across southern California this weekend, with windy and colder weather expected. We expect the first shortwave low pressure system to move through on Saturday, mostly weakened but with a strong 100+ knot jet stream overhead, oriented out of the southwest. Snow levesl will be tricky with this first system, a close call near 7,000+ feet to start. It looks like we see a band of showers on Saturday, and another on Sunday as the second, colder system moves through. Snow levels on Sunday drop to 4,000 feet. The storm is unseasonably cold, but it looks like the bulk of cold air and moisture remains north of the jet stream. If this system dips just 50 to 100 miles further south on the way through, we will be looking at a more promising snowfall forecast.

Making Snow

I find it pretty cool that Snow Summit is open for business already. I mean, it has been cold out but nothing that would remind you of snow. Yesterday was 60 out! The really have the concept of making snow down to a science. Will try to keep posted on the conditions at the mountain this winter, and hopefully will get to do a good bit of riding as well!

Current Snow Conditions from Snow Summit

Coverage / Depth
- Fair to good on the open runs, please use caution near the run edges; 6-15 inches

Surface - Machine groomed hard pack that will soften and develop thin spots on heavy traffic areas

New Snow - No- snowmaking will resume as weather and conditions permit

A little bit of the white stuff!

The first sign of some snow blowing activity on the mountain. Hopefully things will stay cold enough so Bear Mountain can continue to make some of the white stuff. The past few days have definitely seen a change in the weather...gorgeous but quite chilly! Looking forward to Snow Summit this winter!

Shore Acres Lodge

This has to be one of the most enjoyable places to stay in Big Bear and there is no better time than now. Simply put, Shore Acres Lodge is beautiful, and right now very peaceful. I brought the dogs over the other day to play in the lake and we had the place all to ourselves. Surprising, as right now is certainly one of the most enjoyable times of the year! Rarely is Big Bear this colorful!

Hurry and come up to experience this...

Winter is on the way!

The Current Forecast for Big Bear Weather

Highs will go from the 60s Friday cooling only into the 50s Saturday & Sunday as lows cool into the 30s. There is a chance for some showers later Saturday into early Sunday then again on Monday, mainly from a deepened marine layer down below, so once again no significant rain or snow will fall, with the snow level hovering around 7,000 feet should any precip materialize, with the best chance on Monday morning. Expect highs to struggle out of the 40s by early next week as lows drop back into the 20s with W-NW winds at times 10-20mph. High pressure will slowly rebuild later in the week for a slow warming trend.

Hello November!

I can't believe it is already November! This year has been flying by...it seems like just yesterday I was spending the days shoveling all the snow that had fallen! Not quite ready for that yet...but I am really enjoying this season up in Big Bear. This tree caught my eye as I drove by the east end of the lake the other day. It really stands out! I would imagine not too long before all the leaves have fallen and the snow begins...don't miss out...come experience fall before its gone!
